about

A Critical Design assignment for the Fontys University minor Digital Society.

This assignment is a research on the interpretation of different media. We try to answer the following questions. How can you translate digital data into a two-dimensional analog medium? And how can you translate visual content into an auditory experience?

Class DS70 used the Compost Worm Tool (Fontys Factory project on DDW 2014) to create a music album. Students were asked to translate files in their trash can (mp3’s or other files) to a black and white printed A4 paper. Subsequently, other students take those A4’s and made musical interpretations of the visual content. In the end all recordings are used to make a music album all together in one day.
